about

Producer, record collector, rare groove compiler, mastering engineer, drum breaks archivist and avid beat builder. All of this applies to Bob Flaps!

"On the Move" is a continuous, atmospheric instrumental album, packed with organic grooves and samples, warm spacey sounds, which merge mosaic-like and seamlessly into each other.
Flaps' signature drum grooves and sounds are unmistakably, originating from his own collection of well over 5000 drum loops!
All the beats sound deep, dope and are lovingly arranged down to the smallest detail and provide for continuous head nodding...

"On the Move" is full of soundtrack & jazz melancholy, paired with a fresh breeze of Golden-Era-HipHop, spiced with the finest herbs of all music genres.
Bob Flaps takes us on a journey into the endless expanses of his Groove-galaxy and we glide and slide to an undiscovered planet that seems mystical, but is full of beauty and surprise! Newfangled phenomena like autotune or trapbeats are not part of this sound tapestry, which is woven consequently, providing us over 30 minutes with tension and drama!

Flaps looks back on decades of experience in the music biz: Starting with German rap lyrics in 1992, he began producing beats in 1994. From 1997 on his productions can be heard on records for his own bands Hipnotika, Flara as well as for acts like Rasputin, Laas Minute, Teamsport, Spontan, Architekt, Mellowbag, Sékou or even American acts like the DJ legend Mista Sinista or Bukue One & Del The Funky Homosapien.

On Flaps' home turntables, LPs of different genres rotate, especially in the field of library music he is a proven expert: Flaps is responsible for some sought-after rare groove compilation series like "German Funk Fieber", "Dramatic Funk Themes" or „Cosmic Future Groove", which he compiled and produced.
From his huge library music collection Flaps has built up an almost infinite sample archive, from which many of the building blocks of his album were created.

But also the radio plays of the Drei ??? have remained a source of inspiration for Flaps since his childhood until today. If "On The Move" was a Drei ??? cassette, it would probably be called "The Master Thief's Legacy": the story of the passionate record collector Flaps, who deconstructs his samples in the manner of a master thief and re-assembles them into new works of art, disguising them in such a way that the sample police have not been able to track him down until today...

By the way, the drawings on the cover artwork are by Flaps' son Jarmo.

Let's go on a journey into the groove cosmos of Bob Flaps and stay in motion - ON THE MOVE!
